Universal fit — confirm before ordering. Match your connection sizes (1/2″ × 3/8″), valve style (capillary, externally equalized), and the system’s tonnage/superheat range against your original valve. Not sure? Call 480-507-2229 and we’ll help you match it.

How a TXV works

The valve that controls your cooling

The expansion valve is the metering device between the high-pressure liquid line and the evaporator. It drops the refrigerant’s pressure and controls exactly how much enters the evaporator — the key to efficient, consistent cold air.

A capillary sensing tube reads the temperature of the refrigerant leaving the evaporator, and the external equalizer references evaporator pressure — together they let the valve fine-tune flow so the evaporator stays fully fed without flooding. A worn or clogged TXV shows up as weak cooling, frosting, or air that can’t hold temperature.

Why it’s a smart replacement

One valve, many applications

Universal fit

A single versatile valve that cross-references dozens of OEM expansion valves — fewer part numbers to stock and source.

Precise metering

Controls exactly how much refrigerant enters the evaporator for strong, steady cooling instead of weak or fluctuating air.

External equalizer

The 20″ equalizer line references evaporator pressure for accurate superheat control under changing load.

Capillary sensing

A responsive capillary sensing tube keeps the valve reacting quickly to temperature changes at the evaporator outlet.

Wide interchange

Cross-references UAC, ACDelco, Four Seasons, NAPA, Omega, Visteon and more — see the table below.

Restores cold air

Replacing a failed or clogged TXV is one of the most common fixes for an A/C system that won’t cool properly.

Installation

Replace it right

A clean install keeps the new valve accurate and the system efficient.

1

Confirm the match

Check connection sizes, valve style, and superheat/tonnage against your original valve before you start.

2

Recover refrigerant

Safely recover the system charge before opening any lines.

3

Fit the valve

Install the valve with fresh O-rings; route and clamp the sensing bulb correctly and insulate it.

4

Evacuate & recharge

Replace the drier, pull a deep vacuum, then recharge to spec.

Questions & answers

Expansion valve FAQ

What does an A/C expansion valve do?
It’s the metering device between the liquid line and the evaporator. It drops refrigerant pressure and controls how much refrigerant enters the evaporator, based on outlet superheat — which is what gives you strong, steady cold air.
Is this truly universal — will it fit my vehicle?
It’s a universal-fit valve that cross-references a wide range of OEM valves (see the table). Before ordering, confirm your connection sizes (1/2″ × 3/8″), valve style (capillary, externally equalized), and the system’s tonnage/superheat range match your original.
What is the external equalizer line for?
The 20″ equalizer references evaporator pressure so the valve can set superheat accurately across varying load — more precise control than a valve without one.
How do I know my expansion valve is bad?
Common signs are weak or inconsistent cooling, evaporator icing/frosting, or a system that can’t hold temperature even with a correct charge. A restricted or stuck TXV is a frequent culprit.
Should I replace the receiver-drier too?
Yes. Any time the system is opened, replace the drier and evacuate to a deep vacuum before recharging to protect the new valve and the rest of the system.
