How a TXV works

The valve that controls your cooling

The expansion valve is the metering device between the high-pressure liquid line and the evaporator. It drops the refrigerant’s pressure and controls exactly how much enters the evaporator — the key to efficient, consistent cold air.

The sensing element reads the temperature of the refrigerant leaving the evaporator and feeds it back to the valve, so the valve fine-tunes flow to keep the evaporator fully fed without flooding. A worn or clogged valve shows up as weak cooling, frosting, or air that can’t hold temperature.

Why it’s a smart replacement

One valve, many applications

Universal fit

A versatile block/plate valve that cross-references many OEM block valves across trucks, RVs and cars.

Four-port block design

Combines the liquid and suction ports in one block that bolts to the evaporator for a clean, sealed connection.

Precise metering

Meters refrigerant into the evaporator and senses suction-side temperature for steady, efficient cooling.

Wide interchange

Cross-references UAC and a broad range of OEM and heavy-duty brands — see the table below.

Restores cold air

A clogged or stuck block valve is a common cause of weak cooling — replacing it brings the A/C back.

Built to spec

Manufactured to meet or exceed the original valve’s port sizes and metering specs.

Installation

Replace it right

A clean install keeps the new valve accurate and the system efficient.

1

Confirm the match

Check connection sizes, valve style, and superheat/tonnage against your original valve before you start.

2

Recover refrigerant

Safely recover the system charge before opening any lines.

3

Fit the valve

Install the valve with fresh O-rings; route and clamp the sensing element correctly and insulate it.

4

Evacuate & recharge

Replace the drier, pull a deep vacuum, then recharge to spec.

Questions & answers

FAQ

What is a block (H-block) expansion valve?
It’s a four-port valve that bolts to the evaporator, carrying both the liquid feed and the suction return. It meters refrigerant into the evaporator and senses the suction-side temperature to control flow.
Is this valve universal — will it fit my vehicle?
It’s a universal-fit block valve that cross-references a wide range of OEM valves (see the table). Confirm your four port sizes, tonnage, and superheat against your original before ordering.
How do I know my block valve is bad?
Weak or inconsistent cooling, evaporator icing/frosting, or a system that can’t hold temperature with a correct charge. A restricted or stuck block valve is a common cause.
Should I replace the receiver-drier too?
Yes. Any time the system is opened, replace the drier and evacuate to a deep vacuum before recharging to protect the new valve.
