Always replace the drier when the system is open. The desiccant inside saturates with moisture over time and any time the system is opened — for a compressor, a leak repair, or a conversion. Fitting a fresh drier is inexpensive insurance for the whole A/C system.

What a receiver-drier does

Three jobs, one part

On a TXV (expansion-valve) system, the receiver-drier sits on the high side after the condenser. It does three things at once:

Filters particles and debris before they reach the expansion valve and compressor. Dries the refrigerant — the desiccant absorbs moisture that would otherwise form acids, corrode components, and freeze into blockages. Stores a reserve of liquid refrigerant so the expansion valve always has a steady supply.

Why it matters

Cheap insurance for the whole system

Removes moisture

Desiccant pulls water out of the refrigerant, heading off the acid, corrosion, and ice that destroy A/C systems.

Filters debris

Traps particles before they can reach and damage the expansion valve and compressor.

Stores refrigerant

Holds a reserve of liquid refrigerant so the expansion valve gets a steady, bubble-free supply.

Direct B-series fit

Fits 1986–1993 Mazda B2000, B2200, and B2600 — 9 mm ports, 205 mm long, 63 mm diameter.

Replace with the compressor

Always fit a new drier when the system is opened — it protects your new or rebuilt compressor.

Installation

Fit it right

The desiccant starts absorbing moisture the moment the drier is opened to air, so timing matters.

1

Replace when open

Fit a new drier any time the system is opened, or after a leak or compressor failure.

2

Keep it sealed

Leave the caps on until the moment of install — the desiccant absorbs ambient humidity quickly.

3

New O-rings

Install with fresh O-rings and the correct flow orientation.

4

Evacuate promptly

Pull a deep vacuum right after install to remove any moisture, then recharge to spec.

Receiver-drier FAQ

What does a receiver-drier do?
It filters debris, stores a reserve of liquid refrigerant, and — most importantly — uses desiccant to absorb moisture from the refrigerant, protecting the system from acid, corrosion, and ice blockages.
Do I have to replace it with the compressor?
Yes, it’s strongly recommended. Any time the system is opened, the desiccant is exposed to moisture and should be renewed. A fresh drier is inexpensive protection for a new or rebuilt compressor.
Will it fit my Mazda B-series? Which years?
It fits 1986–1993 Mazda B-series pickups — B2000 (’86–’87), B2200 (’87–’93), and B2600 (’87–’90), with 9 mm inlet/outlet, 205 mm length, and 63 mm diameter. Confirm the port size and dimensions against your original before ordering.
Why does moisture in the system matter?
Moisture combines with refrigerant and oil to form acids that corrode components, and it can freeze at the expansion valve and block flow. The drier’s desiccant is what keeps that moisture out.
Should I replace the expansion valve too?
On a full A/C repair it’s good practice, especially if the old valve is suspect. See the matching parts above for the B2200 compressor, expansion valve, and oil.
